What makes Echo Co-RE flooring fully recyclable?

Echo Co-RE is a pioneering one-material carpet where the yarn, fibre, and backing are all made from the same smart source, 100% polyester, meaning no latex. This cutting-edge approach solves the flooring industry's biggest sustainability challenge by eliminating the need for complex separation of fibres from the backing at the end of the product’s life. Meaning the entire carpet, rug or runner can be recycled as one piece back into new carpet or other high-quality products.

How does the recycling process work for Echo Co-RE?

The circularity continues long after installation. When the product reaches the end of its first life, it is returned to Alternative Flooring who then return it to be recycled. It is then cleaned and reduced back into its purest form. The material is then transformed into granulate, ready to be reborn as new carpet or other high-quality products, such as car mats or car parcel shelves, which can themselves be recycled again. For the very first time, the cycle remains unbroken.

How do I return my Echo Co-RE for recycling at the end of its life?

The entire Echo Co-RE product - whether a fitted carpet, rug, or runner - is designed for a circular life. This means at the end of its life it can be easily recycled back into other high quality materials including car mats.

This process involves the carpet, rug or runner being returned to us at Alternative Flooring in Hampshire, UK. Of course, if the product has been fitted please return the flooring only - no underlay. We then organise for the floor covering to be chipped back into granulate which is used to create the fibre to then be recycled into a new product, keeping the material in a continuous loop.

To initiate the end-of-life recycling process, please contact the Alternative Flooring team on 01264 335111 or email hello@alternativeflooring.com

What are the environmental credentials of the Echo Co-RE collection?

The closed-loop manufacturing process supports circularity from start to finish. Plus, the backing is produced using only green energy and no gas or water, which significantly reduces the carbon impact and ensures nothing ends up in landfill or incineration. Echo-CoRE is also latex-free and certified by GUT, Eurofins Gold and Blue Angel for low VOC emissions and a better living environment.

What are the key technical specifications of Echo Co-RE?

Echo Co-RE combines softness and strength with high durability. It is moth-resistant and available in 4m widths. It holds a Class 23 Heavy Domestic / Class 32 Medium Contract rating, making it suitable for both residential and commercial spaces.

Echo-CoRE also has a Class Cfl-s1 fire rating and is solution dyed, making it even easier to clean and maintain.

What makes the Echo-CoRE collection a 'Circular' carpet?

Echo-CoRE is designed for true end-of-life recycling, embracing a circular economy model.

  • Monofilament Material: The entire carpet is constructed from a single type of material (a high-grade synthetic polyester). This eliminates the common challenge of separating different materials (like wool, jute, and mixed backings) during the recycling process.
  • Recyclability: Because it is a clean, single-source material, the entire carpet pile and backing together can be fully recycled and re-introduced into the manufacturing stream at the end of its exceptionally long lifespan.

What kind of texture and feel can I expect from a synthetic carpet named Echo-CoRE?

This collection is designed with sustainability in mind while focusing on a robust yet luxuriously soft texture.

  • Texture: The fibres are engineered and processed to give the luxurious, authentic appearance and soft tactile feel of a high-quality wool carpet.
  • Feel: Customers should expect a soft, inviting texture that is comfortable underfoot, offering the aesthetic and cushioning of a premium domestic carpet.
  • Visual: The designs use almost mettalic colours with a suttle sheen (e.g., Alum, Mossdale, Fingal) and a cute pile, velvet construction which gives a beautiful, luxury finsih.

What are the available finishes and colour palettes in the Echo-CoRE collection?

The collection focuses on a sophisticated, timeless aesthetic that grounds a space.

  • Finish: The core construction is a beautiful saxony cut pile, giving the look of luxurious, premium carpet. It is essentially a solid colour with a textured, non-patterned look.
  • Colour Palette: The colours are inspired by nature and natural tones (e.g., Mossdale, Clearwell, Rowten), offering rich, deep, and muted heathers and neutral tones, often with a suble metallic finish. This palette is designed to be highly versatile, working seamlessly with both traditional and modern interior schemes.

Does the Echo-CoRE collection contribute to indoor air quality?

Yes, being a high-quality synthetic product, it is manufactured with indoor air quality in mind.

  • Low VOCs: Synthetic carpets, especially those designed with sustainability in mind, generally have low or no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). This is beneficial for maintaining a healthy interior environment, particularly for those with sensitivities or allergies.
  • Clean Material: As a pure, single-material product, it avoids the use of mixed adhesives and components that can sometimes off-gas in multi-material carpets, including being latex free.
  • Environmental crdentials: the Alternative Flooring Echo Co-RE collection has been tested and achieved the Eurofins Gold certification for Indoor Air Comfort, Blue Angel Certification and carries a GUT License.

Is the Echo-CoRE collection suitable for making custom rugs and runners?

Yes, its premium texture and dense construction make it an excellent choice for bespoke items, including rugs, runners and stair runners.

  • Bespoke Service: The quality of the fibre allows it to be cut precisely and finished beautifully using the Alternative Flooring 'Make Me A Rug' tool service.
